The Oregon Black Political Convention, held this past weekend, has endorsed for office Bill Bradbury for governor, Loretta Smith for Multnomah County Commission District #2, Jeff Cogen for county chair, and Nick Fish for City of Portland Commissioner #2.
Conventioneers also chose Rex Burkholder for Metro president, Dan Staton for Multnomah County Sheriff and Ted Wheeler for state treasurer.
The convention endorsed a long slate of incumbents for state and federal office, including Sens. Chip Shields and Jefferson Smith, both D-Northeast Portland; U.S. Reps. David Wu, Earl Blumenauer, Peter De Fazio, Kurt Shrader, and Sen. Ron Wyden.
The convention made no endorsement in the race for Portland Commissioner #3, the seat currently held by Dan Saltzman.
On April 16-18, 2010, the Oregon Black Political Convention (OBPC) met at the Crowne Plaza Portland Convention Center to endorse federal, state and local candidates running for public office in the May 18 Oregon Primary Election.
To receive the OBPC endorsement for the Primary Election, each candidate had to receive three-fifth of the votes of the delegates eligible to vote during the endorsement process.
Organizers say the convention tries to endorse the best major political party candidate for each partisan office.
The candidates addressed the convention April 17, and endorsements were made the following day, Sunday, April 18.
