The Camerawork Gallery will showcase Pelle Cass’ Crowded Fields exhibit beginning May 4.
Crowded Fields is a collection of composite photographs capturing athletic competition across a spectrum of sports including tennis, basketball, softball, lacrosse, hockey and more.
“In the reshuffled time of this series of composite photographs called Crowded Fields, play prevails over competition, the stands are empty, and the fields are full, whole games are shown out of sequence. I rearrange the archetypes of sports into new Patterns,” explained Cass in a press release.
“I put my camera on a tripod and take a thousand or so pictures. Then I compile selected figures. I change nothing—I just decide what stays or goes,” said Cass in the press release.
Pelle Cass is a photographer from Brookline, Massachusetts. Cass’ work is in the collections of the Fogg Art Museum, the Addison Gallery of American Art, the Polaroid Collection, the DeCordova Museum, the Peabody Essex Museum, the MFA, Houston and others.
The exhibit will run from May 4 through May 31, 2019. The Camerawork Gallery is located at 301 N. Graham Street. Learn more about the Camerawork Gallery here.
